FT ministry wants to modernize Selayang wholesale market to include more automation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Federal Territories will present a proposal to Cabinet within the next three weeks to upgrade Pasar Borong Kuala Lumpur to Selayang, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said.

The Federal Territories minister said the ministry was in the final stages of reviewing several proposals on the issue with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

“There is a need to modernize the market because it is currently very crowded.

“Its cleanliness is also not up to par and the surrounding drainage needs to be improved,” he said during a visit to the market on Sunday, June 20.

Annuar said the market would be equipped with modern technologies to attract more locals to find jobs.

“Normally, foreigners were hired to do the heavy lifting here.

“But with more automation and machines, we hope the locals can fill the posts instead,” he said, adding that the upgrade would cost around RM 160,000.

The Minister was met after overseeing the market vaccination campaign as part of the MYMedic @ Wilayah Vaccine Mobile Truck program.

Also present were the secretary general of the ministry, Datuk Seri Rosida Jaafar, and the mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah.

Annuar said the one-day program aimed to vaccinate some 2,000 workers in the market.
